Biography
Nancy Stephens is a school social worker at Aldo Leopold Charter School and Executive Director for the Imagination Library of Grant County (ILGC), an affiliate of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. ILGC seeks to inspire a love of reading and exists to promote literacy for all Grant County preschool children by delivering books to their homes monthly. ILGC's vision is for all children in Grant County to arrive at Kindergarten’s door ready and able to succeed. ILGC does business as the Imagination Library of New Mexico and supports the expansion of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library throughout the state. Nancy has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Indiana University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from New Mexico State University. Nancy appreciates that childhood literacy and social work both place value on learning, social justice and well-being, and both can facilitate positive change. Nancy and her husband Brian moved to Silver City in 2007. They are raising two teenagers who have grown up in Grant County. Ms. Stephens has served on several nonprofit boards and volunteers at the detention center with Literacy Link Leamos. She was inducted into the Grant County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Hall of Fame in 2020.
